Our History
Where it all started
In the early 1990’s Barbara Calvert saw the need for providing high quality education for the staff children of Kapuna Hospital.

ACADEMIC STRATEGY
1.1 Class levels to remain less than 20 so teacher student ratio is beneficial
1.2 The Junior High School to have capable teachers for each class
1.3 Commence training of Primary School teachers to provide a certificate in teaching.
CAPACITY BUILDING
1.4 A committed National Head Master with a heart to see KLS be the best school in the Province and Nation. To do this they will need to be well qualified and experienced. Know how to think outside the box and have skills in working closely with stakeholders.
1.4.1 A qualified person to set up the Primary School Teachers College and Tutors to assist
1.5 All teachers to have a Diploma in teaching and a heart for their children.

A bit about our teachers
We have a great mix of volunteer and national teachers, who are all passionate about providing quality education for the GCS community.
School for our staff
Providing quality education at our hospitals means that our staff don’t have to choose between doing the work that they love and giving their children the best education possible.
Investing into our staff kids is really paying off now, with most of the first generation of Kapuna Life School students now working for Gulf Christian Services. The only thing we would change is starting the school earlier.

Laptops for Kapuna Life School
Kapuna Life School, which serves the educational needs of some of the children from Ara’ava and Kairimai, our neighbouring villages, and Kapuna itself, recently received a significant boost in our efforts to integrate technology into our teaching. This step came about when Litehaus International, in partnership with Total Energies PNG, learned about our school’s situation and generously donated six HP computers.
